Liverpool Music Week’s final ever gig at the Kazimier was rather fittingly, a jam packed sold out affair from LA’s finest, Best Coast. Based around the creative core of singer-songwriter and guitarist Bethany Cosentino alongside multi-instrumentalist Bobb Bruno, Best Coast are a band we’ve been trying to catch live for what seems like forever. We’ve had had a number of near-misses in the past involving car breakdowns, injury and even turning up at the wrong venue! So it was great to finally catch them for the first and sadly the last time at Liverpool’s legendary Kazimier club (which closes on New Years Eve.) They didn’t disappoint and showered an adoring crowd with majestic glittering power pop-punk nuggets featuring a set that drew heavily from their marvellous latest album California Nights.
Support came from the excellent Bathymetry and Viola Beach ( there seems to be a theme here) and it was a night that demonstrated once more just how much the Kazimier will be missed. But, hey we all need more coffee shops, retail units and luxury student accommodation … right?
