Something for the Weekend: Must-See Videos, New Bands, Podcasts, and More

If You Watch One New Video This Week, Make It Crows’ “Visions Of Me”

Crows have just released their new single, “Visions Of Me,” following up on their equally impressive track “Bored.” This release comes ahead of their forthcoming album, Reason Enough, which drops on September 27th via Bad Vibrations.

Singer James Cox delivers his powerful vocals while exploring the personal turmoil behind “Visions Of Me.” He explains, “When writing ‘Visions Of Me,’ I was grappling with some unhealthy emotional tendencies I’d developed over several years. I was exploring my own reactive behaviour and becoming someone I hated, and at the same time, coming to terms with the reasons this happened. It’s a very cathartic song for me as it stirs up some difficult memories but also shows me how far I’ve come.”

The album marks the band’s most mature work to date, featuring more melodic elements than previous projects. Produced by Mercury Prize-winner Andy Savours, known for his work with Black Country, New Road, and My Bloody Valentine, this album promises a compelling sonic journey.

If You Discover One New Band This Weekend, Make Sure It’s Cliffords

Discover Cliffords*, an indie rock/pop band from Cork, whose music beautifully captures the essence of love, heartbreak, and cathartic joy. Picture a fusion of Wolf Alice and The Cranberries with a touch of Sinead O’Connor, and you’ll get a sense of their shimmering uplifting sound. At the heart of this band is lead singer and guitarist Iona Lynch, a burgeoning star whose timeless, emotive vocals soar with heart and passion. Their track “If The Shoe Fits” is a Cork-er , it was released a few months ago, but their entire debut EP has been on repeat ever since. To be blunt, this band is f*cking glorious and one of the reasons I share new music,

The band comprise of rhythm guitarist and singer Iona Lynch, bassist and trumpet player Gavin Dawkins, lead guitarist Harry Menton, drummer Daniel Ryan, and Locon O’Toole, on keys. They are without a doubt a young band to watch. NB/ *They appear to have dropped the , “the” from their band monicker. Imagine if Matt Johnson had done that. He could have avoided repetition by simply calling himself “THE” instead!

If You Listen to One Podcast This Weekend, Make It MarK Sutherland’s “The Money Trench”

Dive into the music industry with esteemed music journo and writer Mark Sutherland’s podcast, The Money Trench. This week’s guest is Tara Richardson, who, after 17 years at Q Prime UK, has launched her own company, T-Time Management. She’s worked and developed acts such as The Prodigy, Snow Patrol, Foals, and more recently, Nell Mescal and The Last Dinner Party.

Richardson offers great insights into band management, development, and the industry in general, touching on topics like the oak-headed “industry plant” nonsense and how the music industry and labels are supporting artists in terms of their mental health (spoiler- they are getting better at it) Plus, her new signing sounds rather ace.

If You Pre-order One Album This Weekend, Make Sure It’s Suki Waterhouse’s Memoir of a Sparklemuffin

If You Stream  One Debut Album This Weekend , Make Sure It’s Pixey’s ‘Million Dollar Baby’

Merseyside multi-instrumentalist Pixey (Lizzy Hillesdon) seems to have been on the cusp of a breakthrough for a number of years, which occasionally led to a few false starts. However, signing with Chess Club Records appears to have been a real catalyst in allowing her creativity to flourish, unencumbered by scene politics. Her debut album, Million Dollar Baby, is full of irresistible, intelligent pop tunes that blend 90s beats with chiming guitar riffs, crafting an album that really hits the melodic bullseye. Produced in collaboration with Rich Turvey and Jungle’s Tom McFarland, it is a dazzling and assured debut.

If You Watch One TV Show This Weekend, Make It “Presumed Innocent”

For courtroom drama lovers, Presumed Innocent is a must-watch. The series, based on Scott Turow’s best-selling novel, updates the original story with fresh twists and deeper character exploration. Even if you remember the 90s movie starring Harrison Ford, this version offers a new modern twist.

Alleged scarf thief Jake Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard—somewhat fittingly, real-life brothers-in-“law”—deliver outstanding performances, exploring the complex dynamics between their characters. The plot centres on Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor accused of murdering his colleague and lover, Carolyn Polhemus. As he fights to prove his innocence, the series delves into themes of justice, betrayal, jealousy, rivalry and morality. It has also become Apple’s most-streamed show ever. Without delving into spoiler territory, it’s noteworthy that Scott Turow’s sequel, Innocent, was released in 2010, and he is set to conclude the trilogy with Presumed Guilty in 2025. Given this, it’s no surprise that Apple TV+ has already renewed Presumed Innocent for a second season.

And If You Listen to One Playlist This Weekend, It Has to Be Mine, Right?

Enjoy the weekend, and remember: life is too short for bad tunes and boring TV.
