Since launching in May 2023, CONTENT in Liverpool has shown in can pull a wide range of heavy hitters with acclaimed artists such as with Caroline Polachek, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Pretenders with Chrissie Hynde, Maisie Peters, Stereolab, Craig Charles Funk & Soul House Party, Liverpool Disco Festival and the launch for Homotopia’s 20th anniversary.
They kick off 2024 with a trio of unmissable dates with The Vaccines, Cheap Thrills and Bill Ryder-Jones all performing over the coming weeks at CONTENT and more shows will be announced soon.
First up it’s a very special show as Rough Trade, (who have just announced a new flagship store in Liverpool ) present The Vaccines on Saturday 13th January. This unique event celebrates the release of their new album, Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations, released via Thirty Tigers on Friday January 12th. The title comes from a misheard lyric from Don McClean’s American Pie, a song that for the band’s Justin Young fittingly evokes the death of innocence and the American Dream.
Local band The Cheap Thrills return to Liverpool with a new “Keep Cheap” night at CONTENT for their biggest hometown show to date on Saturday, March 2nd.
Then Thursday 21st March it’s West Kirby’s finest and The Coral co-founder Bill Ryder-Jones, Bill’s latest album, Iechyd Da, is being released on Domino Records on Friday 12th January. At times joyous and grand, at others intimate and heartbreaking, the past few years spent producing other artists have provided that gentle nudge to expand into new territory, from kids’ choirs and tender strings to dramatically re-contextualised disco samples.
Mike Deane, CONTENT’s Head of Music, says: “We’re all absolutely buzzing from such a strong launch as a new live music space in 2023 and attracting such a great range of world class artists, DJs and performers to this incredible new Liverpool venue. We’re working with everyone from local independents to established national promoters and curating a programme for 2024 which will build upon what we’ve started. And with The Vaccines, The Cheap Thrills and Bill Ryder-Jones up first, it’s a fantastic start with lots more to come.”
