Festival No.6 Announces Legendary Black Grape
Seminal party band added to the bill as UK festival exclusive
Festival No.6 is delighted to welcome the mighty Black Grape to Festival No.6 for a special performance to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their brilliant debut No.1 album It’s Great When You’re Straight…Yeah.
Formed by Shaun Ryder (Happy Mondays) and Kermit (Ruthless Rap Assassins) in the mid-90s, Black Grape arrived in the middle of the derivative Britpop era with a joyous debauched party album that embraced everything from Beatles to bhangra, Cypress Hill to Serge Gainsbourg and the Rolling Stones and the Faces. It was the sound of the best house party you’ve never been invited to, and still sounds like nothing else.
Said Kermit Leveridge: “Festival No.6 is unique. It’s a festival that has something for everybody, whether you wanna party hard or you’re a culture vulture. They always have great acts and it’s a beautiful backdrop. This will be the third year I’ve been to No.6 and I’m really looking forward to tearing it up with Black Grape. I’m also going to be curating the Super Weird Happening on the Estuary Stage with Greg Wilson. It’s gonna be majestic!”
Added festival organiser Gareth Cooper: “Black Grape are one of the most influential bands of the 90’s – they were a genre busting revelation. It’s Great When You’re Straight…Yeah was literally the sound track to a thousand parties back in the day and still sounds fresh today. We’re hugely looking forward to bringing their madcap vibes to Portmeirion this September. It’s going to be one serious party!”
Festival No.6 is an intimate, bespoke banquet of music, arts and culture taking place over the weekend of the 3-6 September in the magical village of Portmeirion, Wales, home of the cult TV series The Prisoner. With many more music acts, new venues and Michelin starred-chefs yet to be revealed, the forth Festival No.6 is certain to be the most impressive to date.
Acts will perform across the entire site, by the whimsical Italianate architecture of the village, the historic town hall, piazza, Bristol Colonnade, the picturesque Estuary stage, the atmospheric woods and the promenade along the River Dwyryd.
Constructed between 1925 and 1975 by maverick architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, Portmeirion is a wonderfully bizarre and elaborate interpretation of a Mediterranean villa, nestled in the stunning mountains and forests of North Wales overlooking the expansive estuarial waters of the Irish Sea
