Liverpool International Festival Of Psychedelia 2017
The Liverpool International Festival Of Psychedelia returns and once again takes up residence in the heart of Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle. Camp and Furnace, The Blade Factory and District all play host to the festival and once again it promises to be a mind-bending, ear shredding soul shaking extravaganza. This year the event is headlined by Songhoy Blues and The Black Angels on 22nd and 23rd September and ahead of the festival there will also be an official launch party on Thursday 21st at Constellations, featuring Ducktails, Ali Horn, The Goa Express and White Rabbit Lightshow. Festival and opening party tickets are available now from: liverpoolpsychfest.com
We’ve compiled a handy playlist for you (below) to flip your cosmic wigs out to, containing our top 12 must-see artists. A list which includes, amongst others, psych proselytisers The Black Angels from Texas, who have been a staple of the Austin Psychfest since its inception and whom many regard as major players in reinvigorating the whole psych and drone scene. Loop also make a welcome return to Liverpool, their most recent gig here, at the Kazimier a few years back was quite possibly one of the loudest sonic assaults we’ve ever witnessed. We also include cult noise rockers A Place To Bury Strangers who continue to blow minds and ears after around 15 years in the game, and the legendary Telescopes who we first came across many years ago via a Jesus And Mary Chain flavoured fanzine. Of the new up and coming artists, Yassassin are without a doubt one of THE most exciting young emerging collectives we’ve encountered in recent years. We’ve previously featured their debut track ‘Social Politics’ HERE and their fabulous recently released debut EP – ‘Vitamin Y’ HERE . We predict big things for Yassassin over the next twelve months … It seems the psych umbrella is wide, welcoming and eclectic…. but is it waterproof?
