Ok, so we’re nearing the years end and scurrying around cyberspace to see which bands, tunes, and albums we may have missed during a pretty darn impressive year for new music! However, how on God’s green earth Austin based all female synth wizards Feathers almost slipped under our radar is a complete mystery! Rest assured there will be a bloodbath at VPME towers and no stone will be left unturned in an attempt to address the sort of managerial failings that make Newsnight look like a well-oiled machine ;)
Feathers appear to be a perfect fit for this blog, fusing the melodic swirling harmonies of Warpaint with the dark pulsing beats of Depeche Mode whilst at the same time very much forging their own musical shapes on the creative anvil of innovation, they make a glorious noise! One day all pop music will sound this good, because this really is twenty shades of fucking wonderful! The brain child of former Cruel Black Dove singer Anastasia Dimou with a live line up that varies from a 4 to a 5-piece, and includes Galexy Gehring (Ringo Deathstarr), Destiny Montague (Shock Cinema/Midnight Masses), Courtney Voss (The Vomettes) and Kathleen Carmichael Feathers are a band we expect, nay we DEMAND great things of in 2013

A*Star
Talking of bands who are a perfect fit for this blog A*Star is the musical union of Perry Pelonero and Kim Welsh who first hooked up as members of Boston shoegaze band Skylight in the early 1990’s. They’ve also worked with Curve legend Dean Garcia and indeed Perry still writes and plays guitar for Garcia’s SPC ECO project. The track below, the bands most recent single entitled “Flashbulb” combines raw power, fabulous dream pop hooks alongside some quite incredible guitars riffs and slowly builds into an all encompassing, truly epic wall of sound anthem. Bring on the album we say!
Excellent as ever comrade Pipinski
