Ones To Watch 2018 – 07. Tear

07. Tear

London quartet Tear (rip, not sob) are signed to Tim Burgess’ ‘O Genesis label’ and this year released their debut EP ‘VINYL01.’ It’s the perfect introduction to the band’s oeuvre and having caught them twice this year on Tim Peaks stages at Liverpool Sound City and Kendall Calling the EP perfectly captures Tear’s live energy.

Its an EP rammed with great tunes such as the glorious ‘Careless Again,’  the majestic driving sprawl of erm, ‘The Sprawl’ ‘Never Fade Away’ (you need quite a strong stomach to watch the video) ‘Waiting Room’ and ‘Nothing You Can Have’ which are all imbued with a raw power and on occasion a sense of crestfallen beauty. And singer Camille Benett’s gloriously unhinged vocal on “Begging” conjures up The Au-Paris duelling with the Breeders. Which is obviously by definition a very good thing.
