Virginian indie singer-songwriter and Omnichord aficionado Lael Neale returns with the atmospheric addictive spacy bop of “I Am The River” which has an air of the Silicon Teens meets Stereolab. Ostensibly what appears to be a fairly straightforward lo-fi minimalist romp, like the undulating metaphoric river at the heart of the song, it soon reveals it has hidden depths . Lyrics such as “I am the river, I carry men down” and “I’m for the ocean where we will all end” highlight Neale’s skill for drawing out darker undercurrents with her clever and often profoundly beautiful poetic wordplay.
It comes from her forthcoming new album Star Eaters Delight which arrives on April 21st via Subpop records. The album recorded on cassette in Virginia and mastered by Chris Coady in LA promises to be “ louder and more external, calling out to the world” than her acclaimed debut Acquainted With Night.
Neale’s international tour schedule for 2023 in support of Star Eaters Delight begins April 22nd in Los Angeles, with the UK and European dates below. Tickets for these shows are on sale now.
