Another day, another great track and video from Manchester quartet Loose Articles. “Chaos” is the title track from their forthcoming second EP via Alcopop! Records. It’s a fierce jagged slice of post-punk in the vein of The Au Pairs played at a faster pace and fuelled by Stella and Northern gallows humour.
There’s righteous anger and acerbic wit employed to address an important underlying message. The tune was inspired by a particularly warm winter, and the video filmed and edited by Danny Orwin and Lewis Holgate, addresses the current climate crisis as the band explains: “We wanted to express that this freak weather isn’t about giving us northerners a well-deserved break from the cold and rain, but due to the effects of man-made climate change”.
Loose Articles describe their forthcoming second EP Chaos as: “a satirical examination of the hazards of modern life—keyboard warriors, the death of the independent pub, sexist footy fans, and the hopelessness that the woman in the street often feels in the face of impending doom. Whilst politicians fly their private jets to climate change conferences only to sit around scratching their collective heads as to why it’s so warm in February, all that’s left to do is head to the nearest beer garden and watch the world burn.”
