Something For The Weekend: This Week’s New Music Recommendations (W/E 20/09/2024)

Here’s a quick round-up of new music this week!

The Headline Track: Sunday (1994) – “Blossom”

Sunday (1994) has done it again with another perfect track in the form of “Blossom.” The band masterfully balances introspection with euphoria, and dark humour. Lines like “I’m not in possession of a Smith & Wesson / Or I’d decorate the ceiling / The Sistine of my feelings” strike a brilliant balance between wit and emotional depth. This is their first release for RCA, and I take full credit for that—just kidding! I knew they had something special from the moment I heard their debut, “Tired Boy.” Check out my interview with them for Under The Radar here. Which was their first ever

WH Lung – “Bloom and Fade”

WH Lung has released their final single ahead of their new album, Every Inch of Earth Pulsates in the form of “Bloom and Fade” the album promises to be one of the year’s best!

Fuzz Lightyear – “My Body”

If you’re in the mood for something louder, Fuzz Lightyear from the wrong side of the Pennines are here to shake things up with their explosive track “My Body.”

Deep Sea Diver – “Billboard Heart”

Deep Sea Diver returns with new single “Billboard Heart” and the exciting news that they’ve signed with Sub Pop. You can read my interview with head honcho Jessica Dobson from 2021 here.

Nyah Grace – “More” (Stripped Back Version)

After a hectic week, if you’re looking for something a bit more soulful and soothing, check out Nyah Grace, an R&B and soul singer from Manchester by way of Oregon. She’s released a beautiful stripped-back version of her recent single “More” showcasing her timeless voice. It’s a gorgeous slice of neo-soul that addresses love’s addictive tendencies. For some reason, it reminds me of Christmas—but that’s just me! Yes, I’m already counting how many sleeps until then!

Chloe Black – “Godless”

Pop and goth singer Chloe Black is back with her new single “Godless.” She told me that “Godless” is “a song I wrote on acoustic guitar when I was feeling broken, lost, and having a bit of an identity crisis. It’s vulnerable, sad, and introspective, but it also has some tongue-in-cheek moments because, like so many people, I tend to deflect with humour. If ‘Fleabag’ wrote a song during a mental breakdown, this would be it.”

And here’s this week’s Spotify playlist—enjoy!

And so to the weekend. Anyone fancy a pint ?
