It’s one thing to be tipped as one of the most exciting new bands in the country, it’s quite another to consistently come up with the goods. Dream Wife have done things the old fashioned way with D.I.Y releases and by winning an ardent fan base via word of mouth due to their incendiary live shows. The band who only started touring properly last year have quite rightly picked up the plaudits for their debut EP and the visceral power of their aforementioned live performances.
There seems no sign of the band wobbling under this new weight of exception as their latest release ‘Somebody’ adroitly demonstrates. Searing guitar riffs, throbbing bass lines, a soaring chorus combine to produce another memorable song and one that “explores the experience of living in a female body within our society. It’s a conversation on the reclamation of bodies by the women who occupy them in a tender, yet direct and empowering way.”
We appreciate that prosaisms are often unavoidable when writing about music and doubtless there’s a journalist or music blogger, who at this very minute, having just browsed “The Definitive Guide to Musical Journo Clichés,” has fingers poised about to type “feisty female girl gang with a side-serving of sass.” All we’d ask is that they consulted their thesaurus and perhaps attempted to find something a little more fitting to describe Dream Wife, talented musicians, artists and songwriters with plenty to say and the potential to be huge.
The band recently announced they’ll play their biggest headline show to date at London’s 550 capacity Tufnell Park Dome on Thursday 27th April. Preceding this show, Dream Wife will be making their stateside debut at the SXSW festival in Austin, followed by a handful of dates supporting The Kills in California. In addition, they will be performing at Great Escape and Blue Dot Festivals, and locally Fest Evol in Liverpool.
