The colossal wrecking ball that is 2016 is almost over ….. thank f**k. It’s a year that’s taken so much whilst giving back sweet F.A. and as such you might not think such a wretched, gloom laden 12 months could possibly form the basis of a festive tune. But glittery pop act FEMME manages to pull it off with some style. ‘2016 ( Cry, Cry Cry)’ documents some of the misery this year has inflicted with wit and warmth and ultimately leaves us feeling hopeful for better days. Although one suspects 2017 might have other ideas up its sleeve ;)
She says of the song “I wasn’t sure I would be able to top last year’s (sensational) “Santa (Be Good To Me)” but after 2016 provided such a rich source of material I couldn’t help but give it a go. Now I find myself one more festive track closer to ‘FEMME: The Ultimate Christmas Album’ (expected 2024).As much as I am poking fun at what is surely a year for the history books, I also wanted to pay tribute to all the stars we’ve lost this year and some of the heartbreaking events that have dominated this year’s headlines. “
