Dynamic duo Beck Wood and John Ridgard AKA Coves return with a brand new tune ‘Shot To The Wall’, the lead track from their new EP ‘Spectrum’ which is out on 13th April. It’s their first new material since the release of last year’s critically acclaimed debut album ‘ Soft Friday’.
‘Shot To The Wall’ begins with an insistent scratchy metallic guitar riff, that owes more to a less agitated version of The Banshees than it does to the Mary Chain, (who now seem to be the ‘go-to- comparison band’ when it comes any guitar embellishments that employ reverb.) Beck Wood’s sonorous, yet slightly aloof vocals curl their way around a song, which manages to sound cohesive given that it takes in dash of eastern mysticism, Tarentino spaghetti western stylings, eerie synth flourishes before John Ridgard takes his guitar off on a mini pysch wig out. It’s eclectic but it works because… well,… it works because it’s Coves.
