Track Of The Day – Calva Louise – I Heard A Cry

Calva Louise  I Heard A Cry –

We walked in on Calva Louise‘s riotous live performance at this year’s Sound City and were hugely impressed, they conjured up a compelling mix of fast-paced garage rock infused with no small amount of swagger and charm. And they looked like they were having a fucking ball on stage.

The trio’s latest single certainly captures their raw power and ability to produce memorable adrenaline fuelled anthems which don’t piss about or outstay their welcome but instead get straight down to business.  ‘I Heard A Cry’ is a veritable explosion of joyous melody and scuffed up noise beginning with a relentless driving riff, replete with  “Girls In The Garage” style ‘ooh ooh’ harmonies before Jess’s melodic vocals, which fizz with energy and attitude drive the song to even greater heights. It certainly whets the appetite ahead of their debut album which is being readied for release early next year.

According to the band, ‘I Heard A Cry’ deals with “the misinformation we often feel regarding what’s happening elsewhere in the world. But at the same time, it’s about the will of many people who are trying to inform themselves”.
