We’ve had a few days off from music, enjoyed a slight existential crisis, apathetically battled ennui, walked with giants (no really -see here ) and in doing so rediscovered our mojo! Sometimes you really do have to unplug from the Matrix.. thus we return with renewed vigour. So it’s back to the music ….
2014 appears to be the year of the Canadians, in the sense that we seem to have featured the country of the maple leaf quite heavily this year.
Today we feature yet another band who call Canada home, Family Video formed in 2012 in Vancouver around the creative nucleus of Jam King (guitar/vocals) and Jeff Johnson. Now based in New Foundlound the band follow up their second album ‘ Too Short, Too Long’ with their third outing ‘Maybe This Summer,’ another fine collection of wistful lo fi tunes released on 1st September 2014 by our blog brothers over at GoldFlakeTapes.
Today’s track of the day ‘ She Reminds Me’ (which is FREE!) does exactly that as vocally Jam has that tremulous impassioned sort of delivery rather reminiscent of Emma Kupa in her Standard Fare days whilst the low fi atmospherics and understated guitar jangle lend a sun bleached, heroically ramshackle, carefree kind of vibe to proceedings.
Summer has arrived. Bask in it.
