Hey Charlie return with a brand new single ‘Bad Things’ ahead of their first UK headline tour.
The trio produce a sound that recalls a less experimental more pop/rock-centric version of Warpaint colliding with the Runaways and The Ramones on a John Hughes movie soundtrack. Which by definition is a very good thing. In our view, Hey Charlie tracks always sound fucking huge when they are shouting “Hey!” in the background and ‘Bad Things’ delivers in spades on the ‘Hey’ count!
There aren’t many bands who are writing soaring pop anthems combined with coruscating guitar riffs but Hey Charlie do it with style and panache. And their progress is hugely impressive when you think the band manage themselves, book their own tours and have 100% hands on creative control of every aspect of their work. Proper Indie DIY.
As one of our tips for 2019, ‘Bad Things’ only adds weight to our view that Hey Charlie have got the musical and songwriting chops to break on through in 2019.
