Well this is just great! Laura-Mary Carter, of the mighty Blood Red Shoes, unveils the title track of her forthcoming mini solo album Town Called Nothing. It’s a much more refelctive sound than Carter’s normal ouevre with Blood Red Shoes, which is often infused with anthemic powerful adrenaline blasts of noise, power and epic guitar shredding. “Town Called Nothing” reveals Carter’s graceful warm and expressive delivery is perfect for this more stripped back reflective type of alt country sound. Let’s face it even her name “Laura Mary Carter” wouldn’t look entirely out of place on an Americana album :) Its quite brilliant and whets the appetite for the mini album , which hopefully won’t be that mini as it’s a style that really suites her.
Of the track she reveals “I found a beat up acoustic guitar and without thinking about it songs just started to come to me,” she shares. “The idea of writing on an acoustic guitar was new to me, I’d always written songs for my band which has a very heavy disposition. I realised that writing in this intimate way exposed my voice and changed the way I was writing and singing lyrics.”
