Bristol couple Mumble Tide who met through Gumtree when Gina Leonard advertised for a bassist and Ryan Rogers responded; (“the boyfriend part was a bonus” ) unveil the opening track “Good 4 Me” from their forthcoming mini-album Everything Ugly.
It’s an uplifting slice of DIY indie pop, infused with a sense of euphoric freedom and possibility. The track was apparently “composed on a ‘crap Casio keyboard’ bought from a dentist on Facebook Marketplace” and combines some wonky synth action with what Gina describes as “a stupid guitar solo.” It even features a trumpet, which is employed with subtly and guile rather than allowing it to simply run unchecked ( because nobody likes a rampant runaway trumpet right ?)
There’s certainly a sense of liberation running through Mumble Tide’s musical output so far, in the sense that they are doing exactly what they want to do rather than trend-chasing or allowing their creativity to be restricted by genre tagging.
Everything Ugly is released on Nothing Fancy Records on December 03 and (therefore should include an additional Christmas song if there’s a god, which there isn’t.)
