Some songs come along and just blow you away, and this, well …. this is a work of art. From her Indie roots with Slow Club where she would bound around the stage singing, playing the drums or the guitar whilst wearing a Sheffield Wednesday top, to some moonlighting with Moonlandingz, Rebecca Lucy Taylor under her Self Esteem moniker has transformed into a full-on pop star. “I Do This All The Time” is a work of genius, yes that’s an overused word, however, it has been fact-checked by the hype police who have decreed it has been employed entirely appropriately in this case. “I Do This All The Time” feels powerful poignant, moving, sad, funny, and liberating, it also feels rather like being released into the light after a year in a very dark tunnel. It’s quite beautiful.
Taylor delivers the spoken word verses in her Yorkshire accent which gives way to a soaring uplifting soulful chorus. Taylor says “All my upcoming work is exploring how complicated it is to just be a human. I’m wonderful and I’m terrible. I hurt people and people hurt me. I feel everything and nothing. It’s a shit laugh but then it can be quite jolly, can’t it ? The video is the first chance to spot one of the many easter eggs for Self Esteem purists as well as the rather on the nose metaphor of me hugging myself – much like Elton John in the movie “Rocket Man” does. Enjoy!””
