Well we’ve just about recovered from our Mary Chain shenanigans are ears have stopped ringing but we will be catching up with them again in February … So it’s back to reality and our Tracks of the Day feature … and *gasp* there is a link to the Mary Chain.
Today’s tunes are from Mark Crozer and The Rels, and Mark also happens to be the touring guitarist/bassist alongside Phil King with the Mary Chain. We first came across his work as part of International Jetsetters a few years back, and although his latest album is a slightly less explosive affair sonically, it’s still infused with soaring irresistible 60’s tinged pop hooks. Mark’s a huge Beatles fan and whilst this shines through in terms of the melodic structure of the songs, it never wanders into pastiche or remotely sounds like somebody simply rehashing the past. There are also nods to the likes of XTC, The Byrds, The Kinks and even early Floyd, and if melodic guitar driven paisley shirted pop is your bag, then Mark Crozer and the Rels are your men. When Mark finishes his UK tour with the Mary Chain he’ll be playing a few gigs in the UK before heading back to NYC.
