West London’s Unflirt has released the first single and video ‘Someday’ from her second EP ‘April’s Nectar’, set to come out on November 29th. The track reveals a sound reminiscent of artists like The Sundays and, more recently, Bleach Lab.
There’s certainly more than a hint of Harriet Wheeler in Unflirt’s vocal delivery, which beautifully captures the bittersweet nature of the song. Co-written by Unflirt and produced alongside Iain Berryman (known for working with Wolf Alice, Young Fathers, Beabadoobee), she shares, ‘Someday’ is about the struggles and feelings that come with being in a long-distance relationship. I wrote it thinking about those first moments after I dropped my boyfriend off at the airport, and it was honestly the most gut-wrenching, horrible time ever. Writing the song, I guess, helped console me in a way, because even though I was incredibly down with the uncertainty of our situation, it let me reminisce on the beautiful time we had just spent together and know that at least there’s always someday.”
I can relate. My ex-girlfriend once wrote a song when we were going through similar circumstances. In retrospect, I guess I should have been worried that it was to the tune of ‘Oh Happy Day’.
